Apiwattanatam recycles from the domestic domain as a metaphor for the contemporary fetishisation of the mundane. The works take advantage of the under appreciated elasticity of material meaning to address the question of values.

GROSS DOMESTIC VALUE

An inferno, a natural spring, a bench top, bags full of scrunched up other bags, a finger around the top of a glass echoes, a ring hits the side of a glass, scrunched sound.

A screen hovers in space like a disembodied window the lightness of the world resting on it’s plastic and plasma shoulders.

Dust burns on the turmeric plumes of heat, mercury like liquid infinitely traveling through tubes.

A flatting out the screens degradation, the turns of reality, but somehow it clears the vision of the bubbling diet coke, airy with it’s NutraSweet effervescence. Sugar encrusted spheres pile on top each other and demarcate ponds of syrup plastics oils gold glass diamonds a bundle of modern affluence stripped of material worth symbolic offerings fluctuate between rubble and jewels.

Waterfalls, compressed fiberboard, shallow plastic dish.

The surface of the television is pocked with bubbles of air, an oily film, caked dusk, beams of light obscure it’s images, flat and dimensionless from the front. A canvas with a back pocket full of lose wires, copper coils and a squat glass vase turned on it’s side.

A cocktail of mercury and alchemy inside.
