After sold out shows at SEVENTH Gallery and KINGS-Artist Run, Ari Tampubolon will perform hit songs from their “Make Love (In This Institution)” album at BLINDSIDE, the final stop of their 2020 A.R.I. tour. A farewell dance to the once-essential institution of art. Tickets out now.
Dearest BLINDSIDE,
I understand I have promised you a catalogue essay to be developed as part of this project. However, the numerous attempts I’ve made to write about my own work have been unsuccessful and have often ended in a rather lengthy YouTube binge of music videos. Don’t get me wrong, I feel no guilt. Quite frankly, I’ve been rather exhausted practicing my voice and body every day for the past month in preparation for this. Performing the role of artist in a space that often isn’t as welcoming for me. Especially considering I am a straight cis white male with blonde features. Perhaps that is all I can give you and no more. I just wanted to have a fun time with the institution, maybe do some light social climbing for the sake of my career too. That’s alright with you, yeah?
